About

The Lions, The Witch and The Wardrobe is run by me, Kate *waves* HELLO!

I have always been creative, with my main passion being Fashion & Costume. I’ve been back and forth with work and formal art and design education throughout my life. After leaving school I studied Art & Design at college for 3 years. I then went on to work full-time in retail. I returned to college in 2000 to study an access course in Photography with view to going on to study at degree level. After completing the access course however, I decided to move out of the family home and went back to full-time employment (so that I could afford rent), this time working within an office environment.

Fast forward quite a few years, I enrolled on the FDAD (Foundation Diploma in Art & Design) at West Dean College. This was a turning point for me, I had an amazing time there and completed the diploma studying part-time, a little under 2 years later. While studying at West Dean, I was able to really explore my creativity and experiment with many different processes. As well as dressmaking, I started working with leather and completed 3 short courses covering leather moulding, traditional saddlery techniques, and bag making with both soft luxurious leather and more hardwearing thicker leathers. I also completed many art based courses and was able to extend my jewellery making skills with a course in textile techniques in metal. On top of that I also completed a short course in shoe-making. Throughout this time I also attended a few 10 week block evening classes to learn jewellery making.

In 2015 I went on to study the BA (Hons) Fashion & Textile Design at Portsmouth University. I struggled financially studying full-time as a mature student and had to leave after the first year as it was such an intense course which left me no time to work to pay bills. I had a great time there and left with a Certificate of Higher Education in Fashion & Textile Design with Merit.

A few years later, and after a few health issues that held me back and an major operation, I am now starting this blog to get back into sewing and designing, to write about my projects, expand my knowledge and to hopefully help others by sharing hints and tips.

I hope you enjoy my blog. Do you write a creative blog? I would love to have a read, please do link below xx
