Beauty Appreciation – Helena Bonham-Carter

For this weeks ‘Beauty Appreciation’ post, I chose Helena Bonham-Carter. I love her individual style aesthetic and that she is not afraid to go against the ‘norm’. Her acting career has seen her play characters in period films, to more gritty roles like the amazing ‘Marla Singer’ in ‘Fight Club’. She comes across as incredibly strong and I adore her.

I was even lucky enough to see her perform ‘Sally’s Song’ at the Royal Albert Hall a few years back. I couldn’t believe it when she walked out on stage!

Tiffany & Co Perfume

I bought this perfume a month or so ago, but have been putting off opening it. I am very loyal to Chanel No.5 and while I decided to branch out and try different perfumes by buying this, I hadn’t made the leap until now.

I’m a huge Tiffany & Co fan as I’ve spoken about in a previous blog post. I actually didn’t smell this before purchasing. I bought it online. Tiffany is the epitome of good taste, so I trusted that the perfume would smell beautiful.

It really does. It’s a gorgeous elegant scent, very light and fresh, and it’s lasting well so far (sprayed it 3/4 hours ago). Below is the description from the John Lewis website as I feel they described it perfectly:

Elizabeth Arden -Nighttime Miracle Moisturizer- Eight Hour Cream

Ok, I’ve only been using this for 4 or 5 days and will continue with it as I don’t like to waste anything, but…

I feel like I’m missing something with this? Everyone raves about the Eight Hour Cream range (and this is my first try of anything of that range, so the others may be great), but I’m not keen on this.

It says it’s a cream? I’d say it’s more of a balm.

The directions of use are as follows (from their website):

1. Dip fingers into the jar and take a small amount of moisturizer onto your fingertips.
2. Gently warm the product between fingertips.
3. Breathe in the scent of the soothing lavender to calm and lull senses.

4. Lightly massage onto face in small circular motions. Apply product generously to other dryness-prone areas such as hands elbows and legs.

My skin can get quite tight, and massaging this, even after warming between my fingers, pulls on my skin and it’s quite uncomfortable. I did watch an infomercial about this on YouTube and the lady presenting it said that you can roll this on to the skin after another moisturiser to ‘seal in’ the moisture of your other moisturiser. I may try that.

My skin does feel very soft in the morning though, but I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing this.

Results of current skin care routine

I started looking after my skin probably about a month to a month and a half ago. My routine is incredibly basic at the moment and I haven’t introduced a retinol yet and don’t use a separate SPF as yet either (I always make sure my moisturiser has it in, although when spending more time outdoors (I work from home) I will need to consider a higher SPF)).

My current morning routine is:

Clarins Cleansing Milk – Alpine herbs, Moringa, Anti-Pollution for Normal or Dry Skin
Clarins Toning Lotion – With camomile, Alcohol-free for Normal to Dry Skin
Elizabeth Arden – Skin Illuminating Serum
Nivea Q10 day cream

and my current evening routine is:

Aqueous cream – ONLY if I’ve worn make-up
Burts Bees cleansing oil with Coconut and Argan oils for Normal to Dry skin
Estee Lauder – Advanced Night Repair
Elizabeth Arden – Eight Hour Cream – Night Time Miracle Moisturizer

 

I have only used the serums for about 2-2 1/2 weeks I think, but they made the most difference to my skin. It has really cleared up. My skin has smoothed out, I have a more even skin tone and my skin looks brighter. I also used to suffer from dry skin on my forehead, but that has disappeared now.

This is me with no make-up on, just a small amount of Balance Me BB Cream.

I’m really happy with the results so far and really see a massive difference. I’m looking forward to trying other new products and seeing what kind of results I get from them. I’m also looking forward to seeing what difference a retinol will have!

Halloween Ideas!

I’ve started looking for Halloween ideas for next year. With my operation there just wasn’t time to work on a costume, so I’ve decided to look for ideas now so that I have plenty of time to create an outfit. The dogs have outfits for this year, I bought them a few months ago so that we can take them trick or treating around friends and families houses.

Monday Weigh-In Week 2

I haven’t really made an effort food wise this week, but I haven’t over eaten. I have kept up my 7,000 step goal each day. I have had some increased aching this week, which I imagine is because I’m being a hell of a lot more active as I’m also running around preparing stuff for the business and getting the house in order. Yet I still managed to put weight on*. I have read about women putting on weight after a hysterectomy, which I thought would be down to a lot of inactivity for a while, but I was very inactive before my operation due to ill health, so I didn’t think it would really apply to me if I’m honest. I also thought that it was more a menopause thing, and with keeping my ovaries, that that wouldn’t be an issue yet? I was very inactive for a while though, some days not even managing 400 steps, so I imagine it is all that catching up with me. Dawn French managed to lose lots of weight after her hysterectomy though, so it is doable, I just need to persevere. Ah! Just read she lost the weight BEFORE her surgery! But she is managing to keep it off, so that’s a good sign. I need to read up on health after hysterectomy. I’ll write another post with what I find.

*It appears my scales are dodgy. I weighed 17 stone 13lbs yesterday and 17 stone 8lbs today. My Husband said he’s getting weird readings too, so time to invest in some new scales! I think I’ll buy some old fashioned mechanical ones this time!

I want to up my target to 10,000 steps daily this week, but my Husband said I shouldn’t, especially where I have had a lot of aches and pains this week. I, at the very least want to hit 8,000 per day. I dunno, I’ll see how it goes…

As mentioned in last weeks post, I was thinking about starting up a new Instagram account, just to keep a check on my food intake. I haven’t eaten much fruit or veg since my operation, I’ve just been living on crap really. So I did a big shop and got it delivered Saturday night with lots of fruit and veggies.
